Fuchs Projects is cordially inviting All for a special celebration and dance performance presented by Gio Kusanagi, titled: Unity within Diversity
Gio Kusanagi (choreographer/performer) is an interpretive dancer/performance artist who is a native of Japan.
He has integrated Butoh, marital arts, and American modern dance and performs originally choreographed interpretive dance repertories in collaboration with artists of various disciplines.
Joined by the violinist Jia Doughman, his performance of about 30 minutes (starting at 7:30 PM) will include the notion that the fundamental solution to the contemporary world problems is our retrieval of inner connectivity to the earth itself.
Audience members will be invited to share their concerns about the contemporary world through brief writing at the beginning of the show and their prayers will be incorporated into the performance as the focal point of intention. This is a socially-engaged-performance with a brief but essential element of audience participation, without any discrimination.
In conjunction and honor of celebrating Earth Day that demonstrate support for environmental protection as well as respecting Passover that commemorates the emancipation of the Israelites from slavery in ancient Egypt , Gio will relate to the troubled community notions with the attempt to narrow the gap between long time residents and new comers, that will create a union and strength in order to address the problematic issues towards the causing roots of them.
By exposing and relating, during the performance, to a found object/ sculpture that was treated with colors before being disposed, (then found) the audience might find a catharsis to some of the emotional tensions.
The different colors represent the diversity in the community as well as the four elements of Fire, Water Air and Earth
, and the performance is intended to start a healthy and productive dialogue in the community, and to create Unity within Diversity.
